X won't start until mouse moved

Hi,

This happens on system boot. If just X is stopped and started there is
no problem. This might (I can't say for sure) have begun when I switched
to a 2.6 kernel and devfs. A solution would be great but even
suggestions on avenues to explore would be welcome.
