I tried installing all this stuff, but I stil could not make xconfig. I
then tried compiling the Trolltech qt libary in /usr/local, but with the
same result. In both cases "make xconfig" produces a whole lot of errors
and finally says:

scripts/kconfig/qconf.cc:782: confused by earlier errors, bailing out

I'm confused too. I don't think the new method in 2.6 is an improvement.
The only thing I can think of is that my kernel files (vanilla kernel,
not the deb package) is corrupt, but "make menuconfig" is OK and the
resultant kernel runs without problems. But perhaps I should fetch it
again and retry.
