Installation Problems: Debain 3.0r2 on Toshiba 3440ct
After trying debian-laptop mailing list, google, and a
number of web forums I am posting my query on this
list so that I could get a solution, and peace of mind
:)
I am trying to install Debain 3.0r2 on Toshiba 3440ct
laptop which has a bootable USB floppy, a non-bootable
PCMCIA CD drive, and a hard disk. At the moment I do
not have a PCMCIA ethernet card, though I intend to
purchase it -- especially if it could be used to
install Debiban over LAN.
I tried booting with compact.bin, root.bin, bf24.bin,
and smb.bin without any success. While smart boot
manager (smb.bin) managed to boot my laptoop, it
apparently does not support booting the PCMCIA CD
drive. The other three caused some read-activity on
the floppy for a few seconds. And then nothing
happens. The laptop's screen goes blank with a
blinking cursor. [Note that Mandrake boot floppy works
very well.]
Now, my questions:
1. I suspect that the floppy boot images supplied with
Debian 3.0r2 do not support either USB floppy drive,
or PCMCIA CD drive. Is that correct?
2. How do I create a debain boot floppy that lets me
boot from USB floppy drive, and then uses the PCMCIA
CD drive for installation.
Would appreciate suggestions and guidance.
Regards.
