Re: How to have better quality display?

Things are back to normal after I do an online-upgrade of kdm. I'm looking into the frills now. I am using Intel on-board Extreme Graphics. In xserver-xfree86 config, the selections are Vesa for controller and 800x600 for res. This does not give a good quality display. I'm sure Extremd Graphics can do better than this. Under WinXP it is like print-on-paper with non-jugged, smooth edges. Is there a better setting for the display? Cheers

I've just checked out the Intel site.
There are a number of different chipsets available that supply the graphics you're describing.
Which one of these apply?

Intel do supply some Linux drivers.
If they are not doing so in this case, put in an onsite email enquiry, describing yourself as 'corporate IT', and ask why not. Specialist graphics manufacturers like Nvidia and ATI would increase driver support for Linux formats to strengthen their base against the 'onboard' option. But it doesn't hurt to continually remind the onboard manufacturers that the developing Linux market share factor is there, either. Especially since Intel are beginning to making things available to Linux users.
