What X server? If it's not 4.3.0 or greater, then go dig up some backports.
When I got my i845 mobo I had to get packages out of experimental to get the
video up. Fortunately it's not quite that bad now.

If it is 4.3.0 or later (I haven't run Woody since way before they did the
supplemental release) then you should be able to get it going with xf86cfg,
using the i810 driver. Worked for me. I can send an XF86Config-4 if you
need it.

Here's what I have in my box, for reference:

pci bus 0x0000 cardnum 0x00 function 0x00: vendor 0x8086 device 0x2560

Is your trouble limited to mpg123? What else have you tried?

Are you using OSS or ALSA?
