Hi list, after a recent dist-upgrade, there was some kind of installation error which I tried to fix. After various attempts, I made things worse and now I can not install xserver-xfree86. This is the installation messages: -------------------------------------- apt-get install xserver-xfree86 The following NEW packages will be installed: xserver-xfree86 0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded. Need to get 0B/5449kB of archives. After unpacking 15.2MB of additional disk space will be used. Preconfiguring packages ... xserver-xfree86 failed to preconfigure, with exit status 64 (Reading database ... 87254 files and directories currently installed.) Unpacking xserver-xfree86 (from .../xserver-xfree86_4.3.0.dfsg.1-1_i386.deb) ... dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/xserver-xfree86_4.3.0.dfsg.1-1_i386.deb (--unpack): subprocess pre-installation script returned error exit status 64 Errors were encountered while processing: /var/cache/apt/archives/xserver-xfree86_4.3.0.dfsg.1-1_i386.deb E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) ------------------------------- It could be debconf, apt-get, dpkg, the package or some other thing.
