Actually I have more 'diffcult' experience with ATI than nvidia... the 
last time I checked, framebuffer still hangs when I switch from X to 
consoles with my ATI 9700.

On my laptop (dell), once I got the nvidia driver working (ok, it tooks 
me some days) , I never run in troubles.
