Test print OK, can't otherwise print!

Hi all,

I'm running Debian unstable, all up to date, with kernel 2.6.4. I've set up my 
printer, a GCC Elite 600 connected via parallel port, under CUPS. (Printing 
on the same machine via WinXP works fine, BTW.) The test page prints 
beautifully.

However, every regular print job I send its way disappears into the ether. 
First, it enters the job queue. The printer responds, showing on its display 
"PS Processing". That continues for anywhere from a second or two to a few 
minutes, depending on the size of the job. Then the job disappears from the 
queue and the printer just goes back to "Ready".

I've tried this with lpr/lprng, and the same thing happens: A test page prints 
fine, but nothing else. I've tried printing from various KDE and Gnome 
applications without luck. I've also tried Knoppix with identical results. 
I've tried GCC's own PPD, I've tried raw mode, I've tried a generic 
postscript driver, all with the same results.

So, any idea what might cause a test page to go fine and everything else to 
fail quietly? Any idea what is different between a test page and a regular 
print job?
