Hi,

Im running Debian/sid and have just installed sane, xsane, scanimage, and xscanimage.

<snip>

This may not help you, because I have Sarge or because of what I do.
Anyway: I have an epson perfection 1250 scanner.
With sarge the sane-backend version is 1.0.13 and if I use that with my scanner and xsane (but the frontend don't matter) the scanner runs against the backstop and makes clanking noises.

However if I use 1.0.12 it does not. So...

I compile 3 things myself (in this order)

1. libusb-0.1.7
2. sane-backends-1.0.12
3. xsane-0.91

Just get them from their homepages, untar them into your favorite spot and run ./configure, make and make install. Puts them into /usr/local...

They other hitch is I had to change /usr/local/etc/sane.d/plustek.conf
The plustek driver from the backends drives my scanner. I changed these from the original plustek.conf:

[usb] 0x04B8 0x010F
device /dev/usb/scanner0
#device auto

And it all works perfectly.

Hugo.
