RE: Several repeatedly posted problems
I know that Debian is not W*****s. However, when a package-installer is
installing a package that is not backwards compatable, it should:
1. Alert the user that such and such no longer works and how to reconfigure.
2. Better, DO IT!
SO the ones I read over and over here:
Mice under 2.6 kernels: Put psmouse and mousedev in /etc/modules.
USB under 2.6 kernels: Alias or add uhci-hcd (which replaces usb-uchi)
to /etc/modules. WARNING--this module is troublesome and does not unload
correctly. I am laying off usb until there is a fixed version. If you cannot
forgive usb for a bit, then you will have no problems if you leave our
machine on.
CDs under 2.6 kernels: ide-scsi is deprecated but it is still there and still
works! The replacement is ide-cd (same place). I have not gone over yet but
will have to sometime :-)
Oh, I forgot ... W*****s does not help you with backwards compatability
problems either--a far worse offender than Debian :-)
