Have you made sure that the remote host is running sshd? If not, a
refused connection should be expected.

sshd doesnt require portmapper

the same for both computers? thats certainly not right. how did you
determine their hostnames? 

if you know the ip of the remote machine, you could use that instead of
a hostname.
