gkrellm and missing x dependencies

Hi,
I had a bare debian box without any x libraries. I wanted to install
gkrellm and xforward it to another box. so I did an apt-get install
gkrellm and turned on the X11Forward in sshd and logged into the box
with ssh -X box ... BUT I just got an error that he can't open the
display. The reason was, he couldn't create the .Xauthority file because
xauth was not there. so I had to manually install xbase-clients. After
that it worked.
So my question is, why is this not installed if it is needed by gkrellm
if you don't have a full x install. Are there any kind of reasons for this?
