Will do (will have to wait until Monday - the cradle is at work).

/var/log/messages had the following (each time the HS button on the
cradle was pushed):

Jan 23 16:36:36 chris kernel: usbserial.c: Handspring Visor / Treo / Palm 4.0 / Cli<E9> 4.x converter detected
Jan 23 16:36:36 chris kernel: usbserial.c: Handspring Visor / Treo / Palm 4.0 / Cli<E9> 4.x converter now attached to ttyUSB0 (or usb/tts/0 for devfs)
Jan 23 16:36:36 chris kernel: usbserial.c: Handspring Visor / Treo / Palm 4.0 / Cli<E9> 4.x converter now attached to ttyUSB1 (or usb/tts/1 for devfs)

So it appears to attach to both tts/0 and tts/1 (which then are
symlinked in to ttyUSB).

If I can get pilot-xfer to talk to 0 and hotsync to 1 - is there any
docs on what services you can talk to on each port?

Anyhow - I'll give the USB1 a go monday morning - thanks for the hint.
