What do pex5 + xft X extensions do?

Hi,

For some reason I have in my XF86Config-4:

	Load  "pex5"
	...
	Load    "xft"
	...

and the log says the modules are not found, which is true.

But what do they do?
I have Xft enabled in Mozilla, but this must be something else.
