Re: Linux compatability for IBM desktop machines

Hi,
About the desktops,

1) check what NIC its using: netgear normally has linux drivers available

2) soundcard : which make is it?

3) Intel : which model?

4) Nvidia Quadro 4: might be available ( check their site nvidia.com). They
make good drivers for Linux. just have to check if the model is already
supported in the available driver version. instructions are provided too.

5) cd/dvd combo- havent used

6) flat panel not tried

About the laptops:

you might want to check debian-laptop mailing list and also tuxmobil site
(use search engine) - this site is a good resource

NIC: depends on make
 video : is it onboard?
soundcard: depends on model
cdrw/dvd combo: not tried it
tft : not tried
trackpoint: not tried ( U may want to check IBM site and see if they have
anythin on Linux)

56k modem (if its a winmodem where hardware functionality is reoplicated by
software partially, it might be a problem. )
wireless- sorry not tried it.

HTH,
Sanjay
