I'm a newbie myself, but I think:

% uname -a to find the exact name of your kernel,
% apt-cache seach kernel to find out which kernel header packages are 
avaliable, choose the one that exactly matches your kernel
% apt-get install kernel-headers<whatever> to install the headers

Try xconfig to set up x. Plain vesa drivers might do, but it's better to 
have the ones for your hardware. You prob wantot have hardware specs 
nearby, otherwise you can manually edit /etc/XF86Config-4
