I definitely agree with that; I've been doing it for years and it's
always worked very well. For interactive things (especially those that
produce output, or you'll break e.g. scp), you can wrap them in a guard
like this:

  case $- in
    *i*)
      # interactive-only stuff goes here
      ;;
  esac
