Re: Debian installation by newbie

Hello again,
I am actually installing the old-stable version. (Potato). The
reason for this is, I want to upgrade it to woody later once I have
installed it. This way I would learn more about Debian.
I did make a couple of other rescue floppy disks but got the same
error. (I did get the correct rescue/root/driver binaries located at
http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/dists/potato/ )
From this address?
http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/dists/potato/main/disks-i386/2.2.26-2001-06-14/images-1.44/
You might need to try one of the other flavors, such as compact or
idepci, which are available a parent directory or two higher.
If I were to create a bootable CD which binaries would I need to have
on it? Or better still how do I make a bootable CD ?
See http://www.debian.org/distrib/
The problem with the above page is that it's not geared toward the older
Potato version.
I don't suppose you're in the DFW, Texas or Abilene, Texas region? If
so, it might be easier just to get an old Potato CD from me
face-to-face. Or if not, there might be someone in whatever area you're
in that has one.
Alternatively, instead of going from Potato-to-Woody, you might try
going from Woody-to-Sid, although you're more likely to get breakage
with your original plan, and therefore more learning.
