problems with ifup/ifdown/interfaces.

I'm attempting to add additional ip's to my interfaces and am having
trouble..:

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
        address 192.168.0.110
        netmask 255.255.255.0
        network 192.168.0.0
        broadcast 192.168.0.255
        gateway 192.168.0.1

# Second
auto eth0:26
iface eth0:26 inet static
        address 192.168.0.26
        netmask 255.255.255.0
        network 192.168.0.0
        broadcast 192.168.0.255

when I do..
formosus:/etc/network# ifup eth0:26
SIOCSIFADDR: No such device
SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such device
SIOCSIFNETMASK: No such device
SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such device

that's what I get.

A I forgetting something?
