Are you asking me whether 3FS works in X, or telling me that it does
not? Back in my Mandrake days, it *would* work from X.
Both at the console and within X, 3FS does not work for me.
$ cat /etc/shutdown.allow
root
me
Also back in my Mandrake days, 3FS would work even when no one
was logged in.
