Copying over > and old known-good XF86Config-4 fixed it. You know, my XF86Config-4 was nuked a few days ago too! It pissed me off! My fonts all changed and my scroll wheel stopped working. The thing that really bugged me was that there was an XF86Config-4.bak, but it was *not* a copy of the config file that was nuked, it was some older file. Luckily, I had been editing it in Emacs most recently and the XF86config-4~ file was still hanging around for me to get my old settings out of.
