"Perl is configured to link against libgdbm" when building mod_perl

I'm building mod_perl from source and I'm not clear if this is a problem
or not. 

************* WARNING *************

  Your Perl is configured to link against libgdbm, 
  but libgdbm.so was not found.
  You could just symlink it to /usr/lib/libgdbm.so.1.7.3

$ ls -l /usr/lib/libgdbm*
lrwxr-xr-x    1 root     root           16 Dec 10 15:26 /usr/lib/libgdbm.so.1 -> libgdbm.so.1.7.3
-rw-r--r--    1 root     root        22984 Jun 18  2002 /usr/lib/libgdbm.so.1.7.3
lrwxr-xr-x    1 root     root           16 Dec 10 15:26 /usr/lib/libgdbm.so.2 -> libgdbm.so.1.7.3

/usr/lib/libgdbm.so is in the libgdbmg1-dev package.

Should I symlink like it suggests or install the dev package?
