irssi-text not working

irssi-text doesn't seem to be working for me.

issuing the command irssi from the command line simply does nothing.

ii  irssi-text     0.8.5-2        text-mode version of the irssi IRC client

any ideas?  perhaps some sort of perl module dependency problem?
