I'm now all but positive that this is a false lead. AA font processing
doesn't slow other apps (e.g.: Abiword, Firebird), and does affect
pages with no graphics at all (e.g.: opening images in browser). It
appears to be a tab-handling issue, and I've noted performance issues
here in the past.
