sed 4.0.7-1

Yes, this is the version installed from testing.  I had assumed
it was an old feature I had simply overlooked.  But sed's
dependencies are quite light:

apt-cache show sed | grep -i depend
Pre-Depends: libc6 (>= 2.3.1-1)

So unless woody has a more backward-minded libc6, you can
probably get away installing the sarge version.  If not, you
could always try rebuilding the latest version from the debian
source.
