Check to see if this is included on your boottime tasks, or if you're
running anacron which is scheduling an updatedb session at boot.

If you leave your system on most of the time, you can schedule this
activity for off-hours, say, after midnight, or if you follow programmer
hours, after 6am.

See /etc/cron.daily/dlocate and /etc/crontab for more information.
Check whether or not you're using anacron or cron for regularly
scheduled tasks.

Peace.
