Card services release does not match

I am attempting to install Debian onto a Sony VAIO PCG-C1F. This
computer has only a USB floppy drive and a PCMCIA 3Com 3c589c card. I
got the correct USB floppy rescue, root and driver disks from
http://www-user.rhrk.uni-kl.de/~blochedu/usb-install/ as specified in
the installation manual.

I am able to do the inital base network install but when the computer
reboots I lose PCMCIA support. The error that I get returned is:
3c589_cs: Card Services release does not match!

Because I am without network connectivity I am unable to complete the
rest of the install to add the tools neccessary to recompile my kernel
and card services.

My question is what files do I need to download and copy over via NFS
during the inital base install in order to be able to recompile my
kernel. As I said before I can only get as far as the base install which
takes up about 87MB. This doesn't include gcc, make or any of that other
fun stuff.

I am a regular FreeBSD and Slowaris user but this is the first time that
I've touched Linux in the past couple of years. I am using it because it
has more hardware support for this model of computer that I'm using.
Thanks for the help!
