ISO8859 gnome font missing ...

Hi,

   when I try to run '/xvidtune/' as root I get

"/Warning: Unable to load any usable ISO8859 font. Segmentation fault/."

   I note that the font has disappeared from '/gnome-terminal/' [I type 
'WindowMaker' into
a blank terminal to set up the WM] and /AbiWord/ [typing a new document 
gives a blank page].

   I also note that recent dist-updates have taken away the option to 
configure /themes/, start
the /sound server/, and configure/ gnome fonts/. I did not use themes, 
but font and sound are
surely necessary.

   Is there something I can fix, or will it be done in the next 
dist-upgrade ?
