sorry i dint check this one earlier. i haven't used xev much, but it does
show show a keymap notify event when i press my multimedia keys. something like
below:

FocusOut event, serial 25, synthetic NO, window 0x1e00001,
    mode NotifyGrab, detail NotifyAncestor
 
FocusIn event, serial 25, synthetic NO, window 0x1e00001,
    mode NotifyUngrab, detail NotifyAncestor
 
KeymapNotify event, serial 25, synthetic NO, window 0x0,
    keys:  2   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0
           0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0
 
FocusOut event, serial 25, synthetic NO, window 0x1e00001,
