problems with openGL

I'm trying to play soldier of fortune 2 MP demo but I get the following 
warning:

WARNING: could not set the given mode (3)
...shutting down QGL
...unloading OpenGL DLL
...assuming '3dfxvgl' is a standalone driver
...initializing QGL
...WARNING: missing Glide installation, assuming no 3Dfx available
...shutting down QGL
----- CL_Shutdown -----

and in top there's a warning: could not load openGL subsystem

could somebody please give me an advice so i can play soldier of fortune?
