Again with the nvidia...

Running sid on a 1GHz Athlon-C, 768MB RAM, MSI GeForce4MX, kernel 2.4.21
(self compiled), nvidia-glx/glx-dev version1.0.4349-1, nvidia-kernel
version 1.0.4349-3.

Previously, I had a GeForce2, and didn't have problems like this, but with
the GF4, I do. At the same time, its only occurring with Gnome apps. I
dropped Evolution because of the problems, and now the problem seems to be
occurring with Galeon. I have no problems with other apps, including dvd
rippers, tv-capture apps or anything else. It doesn't seem to be load or
activity based, either. What happened tonight was that I was downloading
an app with Galeon, and when I clicked OK, the screen blanked and kicked
me out of X back to an xdm login. Some kind soul emailed me the last time
I posted, and said I should add

        Option "NoRenderAccel" "on"

to the device section of XF86Config-4. I did this and thought I had the
problem licked. But alas, I got bitten again.

Any other wisdom on how to beat this other than tearing Gnome off of my
system?

Security times usability is a constant: The only secure system is one
that is unplugged from the network, powered off, packed in concrete, and
fired into the sun...But at that point, it isn't very usable, is it?
