What sort of writer is it? SCSI? ATAPI? (IDE?) What have you tried
that didn't work?

I got a writer recently, and it was dead-easy to get going. Mine is
an ATAPI (IDE) drive. So, I loaded the ide-scsi and sr_mod modules.
Then use the 'mkisofs' (in the 'mkisofs' package) program to create a
cd image and use 'cdrecord' (in the 'cdrecord' package) to write the
image to the disk. It worked beautifully for me.
