Generally it means your system is having trouble reading the /dev/hdc 
device (probably your CD-ROM drive?). Dirty CDROM? Scratched CDROM? 
Burned, as opposed to pressed, CDROM in an older CD-ROM drive? Failing 
CD-ROM drive?
