As long as your computer supports USB 2.0, you've got quite a few
options. You can now get an external IDE enclosure (usually about $40 -
70 US) that supports just about any internal IDE device you want. This
is MUCH cheaper than buying a dedicated external drive. If your computer
doesn't have USB 2.0 support you can try running it over regular USB,
but the speed will not be the greatest. Either way, it would be much
easier to get a USB 2.0 PCI card for about $30 US.

Coincidentally, as I just ordered one myself, these devices also come in
ieee 1394 (aka firewire) models in case your computer doesn't have a USB
2.0 port but does have a firewire port. (This is the case with my
laptop.)
