I'll consider converting the rpm package to deb, I think that wont give
headache on my part.

It very well could work with no problems. On the other hand, if the rpm
you're installing provides a library or some other dependency, dpkg
won't know about it, and will thus complain when you try to install a
package that depends on it.

Using alien to convert the rpm to deb is usually the recommended way to
install Redhat software on Debian. This still won't get you around all
possible dependency problems, but at least you won't have to worry about
managing two package databases.
