While it is very unlikely to be the case with something as current as a
DVD/CD drive, some older CD drives actually could not support CD-DA
needed for ripping audio CDs (even without RIAA's involvement!) - I have
a pair of drives from my old Pentium/90 MHz - one a 4x, the other a 6x
CD drive, and neither yet had CD-DA.
