Please do *not* start new threads by replying to other unrelated

The main package for XFree 4.x is xserver-xfree86.
The main package for XFree 3.3.6 is xserver-common-v3.
To get rid of XFree v4, the first thing I'd do is make a list
of all of the currently installed packages,
then
# apt-get -u remove xserver-xfree86
# apt-get -u install xserver-common-v3
Remember: if the GUI falls to pieces, you can always remove all
the GUI packages and get down to a bare console system, and then
re-install everything. As long as you do not "--purge" when
removing packages, they will remain on your hard disk, and you'll
re-install from them.
