XFce panel problems

Hello,

I've installed the XFce environment for my Debian 3.0 machine, but I
cannot get the CDE-like menu to appear.  I have read earlier posts that
mention you must edit the ~/.xfce/xfwm-session file.  I edit the file and
nothing changes in the desktop.  When I go back to look at the file
again, the settings are already changed to the "default" again.


Does anyone have any types of suggestions that would help me get the menu
panel to appear???
