managing kernels for different machines

Hi All,

I have about 5 machines each with different kernel configs and would
like an easy way to manage them.

Right now, I store the source tree on one machine with a different
config file per machine stored in the root's home, loading each one as
necessary for a recompile.

This works fine. I have not however had to apply a security patch or
something across all the machines yet and can imagine that turning out
to be quite hellish.

What does everyone else use to manage kernel images. I can simplify the
images to around two (one with module support and one without) but like
having the flexibility of each kernel compiled for the specific cpu
subarch.

I have googled around a bit for this but no luck so far. I read
somewhere that it was possible but didnt go on to say how.

All input appreciated and thanks for your time,

Shri
