I have built a number of PCs from scratch using www.dabs.com for the most of
the parts. This has the advantage that you can choose what you want.
Delivery (assuming stuff is in stock - and that is part of my checking
process before ordering) is a couple of days. With a bit of care (I have an
earthing wrist strap for instance) it really is very easy.
Once I wanted to build a Shuttle barebones system which dabs don't do, so I
got the chassis/motherboard and a duron chip from www.overclockers.co.uk -
getting the other bits (memory, dvd drive etc) from dabs.
This is all ordered via the web
I reckon I can get about as good a price as (say) an equivalent spec DELL,
although I don't get the software but I do get to choose the components that
I use.
