Fwd: kernel won't boot (was Re: compiling a kernel)

Hello,

I'm still trying to understand *what* is wrong with
all my kernels... and guess what ? Except this being
03:02 (because it's on /dev/hda2) the problems look
almost identical to those of a few months ago !!

My custom kernels all have root_dev=0x302 :-(
The 586tsc kernel I installed today (because I thought
it would help me fix the lilo, which it did not) has
something similar, root_dev=0x3A05

Now, where are these (hexadecimal) numbers coming from
? The kernel from the initial installation doesn't
have it;

The only possibility I heard so far was that the
filesystem is a module rather than built in - but
that's not the problem  I think !!

I hope anybody can help - I hope you are not tired of
it :-S

Thanks !!

Joris
