[OT] XFree sluggish after RAM upgrade
Hi,
Asus A7V133
Athlon-C 1GHz
3x 512MB PC133 SDRAM DIMMs
Nvidia Riva TNT2 M64
kernel 2.4.20
XFree 4.2.1 (with the binary driver)
Gnome 2.2.1 + Metacity
$ cat /proc/meminfo
total: used: free: shared: buffers: cached:
Mem: 1588781056 421437440 1167343616 0 38518784 254603264
Swap: 666058752 0 666058752
MemTotal: 1551544 kB
MemFree: 1139984 kB
$ grep HIGH /usr/src/linux/.config
CONFIG_HIGHMEM4G=y
CONFIG_HIGHMEM=y
CONFIG_HIGHIO=y
$ dir /proc/kcore
-r-------- 1 root root 939528192 May 12 18:05 /proc/kcore
After I swapped out 3x 256MB DIMMs for 512MB DIMMs, the GUI sub-system
is sometimes sluggish when switching between virtual desktops and when
opening windows.
Has anyone heard of this or experienced it?
TIA,
Ron
