sarge boot-floppies broken?
Is it me, or are the CD images for booting and installing sarge broken?
I had problems with mkswap (not present). So, I didn't create a swap
partition and then I found that /target/etc/fstab was not present
either. During the package download, there were a couple of 404 errors
which were probably responsible for the previous errors.
Basically, I have a new IBM ThinkPad T40. I found that the e1000 driver
works the Ethernet, I'd like to use ext3 filesystems, and I usually run
testing. So, a sarge install seems like the ticket, and a woody
(initial) install wouldn't hack it since it doesn't have the e1000
driver.
Tomorrow, I'll use jigdo and hopefully get some more recent packages.
I don't have any other thoughts, do you?
p.s. I hope this isn't the direction of the next generation of Debian
installs. What I saw was definitely a step backwards, even if it weren't
totally broken.
