GIMP using TTF fonts.

I'm trying to get The GIMP to use ttf fonts, but can't seem to work it
out... I've tried several howtos, and have installed the ms core fonts
package with apt-get, and they appear in KDE and Gnome 2 apps, but not
in The GIMP or Phoenix... can anyone enlighten me as to what I need to
do?

For reference my XF86Config is attached.
