Home Network - How to Serve Services?

Hi all,

I'm a networking-newbie. Now I connected a client (laptop) via plip to
a server (which is connected via dialup with my ISP). Pinging each other
(and telnet/ftp from client to server) works fine.

Now I would like to:
* send emails from the client to the server and vice versa (exim/mutt).
* use webservices (www, mail, ftp) with the client 'through' the server.

Both didn't work. What do I have to do/consider (/etc/groups,
/etc/exim.conf, server daemons)?
