X uses the next "available" console, typically this is F7 or F8,
I think F8 is the one .. so CTRL+ALT+F8 to get back to X.
as I just mentioned in another message this is generally a bad
idea, many systems will hang or crash when switching into and out
of X on the fly. If this happens to you then the only workaround that
I know of is to not do it again.
though some systems can switch into and out of X all day long.
