Yes, I recently started using tomcat with the Blackdown 1.3 java on a
Woody r1 server. I have not tried the apache connector yet, but Tomcat
by itself seems to be going just fine as yet. AFAIK, you don't need to
install a newer version of Tomcat unless you require a feature that is
only supported in a newer version.

The machine I use is a workgroup server that I admin. Stability is
critical, so it runs plain Woody with security updates. A newer Tomcat
is not a real option, but I have found no need for it. 

[Editorial: Frankly, this is simply the best Linux I've used yet.]
