ATI Rage Fury (128), bttv and DRI ...

Hi folks,

I'm a newbie Debian user, running Woody, and I'm having some problems
using X Windows, so to say. I don't know exactly if this is the right
place to post this message, that's why I will highly appreciate any
pointer which will help.

The summary of the problems is as follows:
I can not get, under X Windows, both 3D acceleration and xawtv, at the
same time.

- I mean, when I have 3D acceleration, if I start xawtv, my computer
crashes big time. Only a hard reset it's reviving it.
In this case, before I start xawtv, glxgears shows an average rate of
410 fps.
The file XFree86.txt contains the log generated by X. It should be
mentioned here, my video card is the AGP model, and, even when agpgart
_module_ is loaded before I start X, X is not using it.

- OTOH if I disable 3D acceleration I can have the TV. In this case when
I use full screen mode a thick border is surrounding the TV window and
glxgears shows only 120 fps.

I'm using the hardware listed in lspci.txt.
The output of uname -a command is:
Linux morphosys 2.4.20-686-smp #2 SMP Sun Dec 1 13:37:59 EST 2002 i686
unknown. The kernel used is a debian genuine initrd image.

What I need:
To run both accelerated server and to have a full screen TV, (without
the black border around the TV window) at the same time.

I have read a lot of docs, I googled a lot, but I had no success. I
found some references regarding the behaviour mentioned above but with
no solutions. I know my hardware is a tricky one, but I really need to
get it up and working.

Some extra comments:
I used latest Knoppix CD to test my computer configuration and I
obtained both 3D acceleration and TV working at the same time.

I also obtained 760 fps for glxgears. I wonder how can I obtain a
similar result? (During this test apparently glxgears was run from a
ramdisk, so perhaps I will not obtain 760 fps, anyway).

Any hint and/or suggestion will be highly appreciated. Thanks!

Cheers,
Sorin
