Q. Wouldn't it be better if people didn't respond to the list to bitch
about errant (un)subscribe requests?

A. No, it's much better to turn each errant mail into a huge thread
filled with whining and complaining!  That way, the pain is
distributed to everyone.  And don't suggest procmail; people who are
busy bitching about the ability (or lack thereof) of others to read
email footers cannot be troubled to read man pages.
