You don't have to do DNAT for each and every connection you need ;-)
Have a look at
http://www.netfilter.org/documentation/HOWTO//NAT-HOWTO.html
especailly part 4.1. It's written for exactly that case. After that, I'd
recommend reading some other stuff at http://www.netfilter.org/ to
learn how to make your system a little more secure.
